Tibetan Handmade Black Pottery — Wood‑Fired Pedestal Bowl
Product Story
On the edge of the Qinghai‑Tibet Plateau, potters still form bowls without wheels.
A single lump of iron‑rich clay is hand‑coiled, then struck thousands of times with a wooden paddle to compact the wall. The base is flared into a low pedestal that keeps hot food from the table while echoing the shape of alpine butter‑tea bowls.
After a two‑day pine‑wood firing the surface vitrifies to a charcoal black, sealed by juniper smoke that leaves random silver flares—each bowl an unrepeatable record of fire and mountain wind.
